About Guy Pettingell
As both of my parents were talented artists I have always had a keen interest in visual art. I studied art & photography to a tertiary level, but didn't persevere any further as I found that earning actual money was more appealing! Having grown up in the U.K. I migrated to New Zealand at 21, continuing with drawing & photography as a hobby while doing various jobs in which I learned a number of different yet complimentary skills. While working as a self employed panelbeater & car painter I realised that if I could make complicated repair sections for cars I could also create steel sculptures, making all manner of things from dragons to roses. Thank you Mario, it had an added complication as I built up layers of mist in the background with an airbrush, working outside in the winter sun to aid drying. Imagine my horror when a passing pigeon dropped a huge bit of business in the wet paint! I was not best pleased...
